Henry Makinwa, the Head Coach of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club of Ilorin, on Friday confirmed that wing player Chigozirim Metu will no longer feature for the club this season.
Makinwa told newsmen in Ilorin that Metu has a fracture which has inhibited his further participation in the ongoing football season.
He said Metu fractured his tibia after a heavy challenge on him by Kano Pillars’ Jamil Jamil.
“Tibia is the larger and stronger of the two bones in the leg below the knee in vertebrates, the other being the fibula,” the coach explained.
While describing the development as a setback, Makinwa however said the good news was that Metu would not need surgery to heal.
“Metu only needs casting to assist the injury to heal on time,’’ he said.
“But we are not happy with this development and I see this as a setback, even though injury is part of football.
“However, we have to cope with it, especially as this is one of the periods when we need Metu more.’’
The coach disclosed that Metu was in good condition presently and the club would do everything to see that he recovered quickly ahead of next season.
There are already doubts over the continued availability of some key players due to various degrees of injuries they have picked up.
The fitness of Ernest Governor, who had not trained fully with the team for the past 10 days, is still a doubt for their Match Day 27 fixture on Sunday
Also, the trio of Martin Ossy, Adeoti Muiz and Chukwuebuka Anaekwe were still struggling for fitness for the trip to Lagos to face MFM FC at the Agege Stadium.
ABS FC’s 1-1 draw with Kano Pillars on Wednesday had dropped them to the 14th position on the log, their lowest placement this season.
